Kate Magargal

Kate recently received her MS in Anthropology from the University of Utah and is pursuing PhD work in archaeology with an emphasis on human ecology. Kate is particularly interested in the relationship between prehistoric subsistence strategies, ecosystems and the practice of landscape burning.

Prior to coming to the University of Utah in 2012, Kate roved the west in various capacities. She received her B.A in Anthropology from the University of Arizona in 2004, where she conducted research in primate ecology. After college, she joined the National Park Service, where she served as a park ranger and physical science technician. Before returning to school, Kate's varied career also included work as an astronomer's research assistant, wilderness guide, archaeological technician, plant propagator and stargazing consultant.
