Utah Redistricting with Geographers
Meeting: Utah Redistricting with Geographers: Every Voice Represented
Date and Time: September 22nd, 2021 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm MT
the AAG Redistricting Panel Series has an upcoming virtual panel in Utah on Wednesday, September 22nd at 7pm MT, organized by Rebecca Steed of the University of Utah. This panel will be completely tailored to Utah's redistricting process and will feature panelists from all over the state. It's free to attend, and open to AAG members and non-members alike. The overall goal is to encourage civic participation and get more geographers involved in this year’s redistricting process.
How will Utah draw new legislative districts where every voice is represented? And what can you do to make your voice count as those new maps are drawn? This panel brings together perspectives from geography, demography, political science, and community activism to discuss Utah's current voting districts, and to examine what changes are needed to achieve election outcomes that are truly reflective of Utah constituents. When it comes to the fight for fair redistricting, there is no one better equipped than a geographer. By activating our collective power as a community and pressing to have a geographer in the room in every state, we can set new expectations this year and show why geospatial thinkers are indispensable.
