Elizabeth Looby, a Master's Degree student working with Professor Mitchell Power, was invited to intern with the NASA DEVELOP Program this Fall at the Ames Research Center, located at Moffett Field, California.

Liz will be involved with a project called The Lake Michigan Water Resources Project, working on a Cladaphora (a type of green algae) habitat suitability analysis on Wisconsin's eastern shores, using Landsat and MODIS, and validating a Cladophora detection and monitoring tool with in-situ data. Decaying Cladophora promotes the growth of toxic bacteria, which can harm organisms that come into contact with it. Validating a predictive map showing where the Cladophora algae grow and might wash ashore will help avoid potential biohazards.
