Geography grad students rally against changes in how tuition waivers are taxed

Several graduate students from the department participated in a rally at the Utah State Capitol on November 21 to call attention to proposed changes in how tuition waivers are taxed by the federal government. The Graduate School estimates that changes proposed in the House tax bill would result in a 24-183% increase in student income taxes. PhD students Tom Brussel and Ben Marconi helped organize the effort, and both Tom and Rebecca Richards Steed spoke at the rally.
