Scientists monitoring bark beetle outbreaks worldwide say the intensity of the insects' activity has increased in recent decades as temperatures have climbed. "The amount of conifer mortality that we're seeing both here and in Europe is unprecedented historically," said geographer Jesse Morris of the University of Utah.
